Expanding Horizons in Organizational Science

Most of us spend a significant portion of our adult lives at work. Given its universal impact, it’s surprising that the field of Organizational Science is often dominated by researchers from a limited range of backgrounds.

Organizational Science is a dynamic field that applies insights from various disciplines to the workplace. By understanding employee behavior, team dynamics, and organizational culture, we can improve job satisfaction, productivity, and overall organizational health.

However, to truly understand and address the complexities of the modern workplace, we need a more diverse range of perspectives. A field that lacks diversity risks overlooking critical issues and developing solutions that may not be universally applicable.

A Broader Perspective

We need a diverse range of perspectives to truly understand and improve work experiences. Limiting the pool of researchers and practitioners to a narrow demographic risks overlooking valuable insights and innovative solutions.

Breaking Down Barriers

A significant challenge in Organizational Science is the pipeline problem, where systemic barriers hinder access to graduate education and professional opportunities for individuals from marginalized backgrounds. These barriers may include limited access to mentorship, financial constraints, and cultural biases.

The Dr. Shawn Long Organizational Science Institute is committed to this mission. By preparing future organizational scientists from various backgrounds, we aim to enrich the field and drive innovation.
