2014 Alumni

Michael is a rising senior at Purdue University Calumet. He is a McNair scholar and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in both psychology and criminal justice. He is currently serving a second yearly term as an officer in Psi Chi. He is a member of the Association for Humanist Sociologist and the psychology club. Michael’s diverse research interests include coping strategies for racial minorities, minorities and SES advancement, and forensic psychology. Michael’s long-term goal is to earn a PhD in social psychology to help “at-risk” youth in communities that experience adversity.

Maria graduated with honors from Grossmont College earning associate degrees in both Communications and Business Administration. Maria is currently attending San Diego State University pursuing a double major in Human Resources Management and Industrial Organizational Psychology. At San Diego State University, Maris is the Communications Officer for her school’s Society for Human Resources Management chapter. She is also a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, an honors association. Maria plans to attend graduate school for her MBA. Her research interests include workplace motivation, teams (including virtual teams), leadership and globalization.

Lyangela is a senior majoring in Psychology and Hispanic Studies at Rice University. She is involved in several research projects and is in an I/O psychology research lab. Upon graduation, Lyangela’s goal is to earn a PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and conduct research on workplace diversity and discrimination, particularly discrimination against Hispanics. Her goals include becoming a successful researcher and educator. As an educator, Lyangela hopes to especially inspire and teach students who are underprivileged and under resourced.

Kristy is a junior majoring in Psychology at California State University San Marcos. She is involved in Psi Chi, the Psychology Student Organization, Tukwut Leadership Circle, and the Social Psychology research lab. Kristy also volunteers at her local library as an adult literacy tutor. Kristy plans to enter a graduate program in I/O psychology, focusing her research on positive psychology, personality, and group dynamics. Her professional goals include pursuing an applied organizational psychology career, while being an active researcher to help create workplaces where people can thrive.
